Rare Bacon & Co. Underhammer Boot Pistol 34 Caliber Percussion Norwich
Description: Serial #10, 4 inch half octagon / half round barrel with a fine dark bore with strong rifling. This is an antique .34 caliber Bacon & Co. underhammer percussion pistol manufactured in Norwich, Connecticut with an estimated production of 500 from the 1850's. Thomas K. Bacon began his career with Ethan Allen and had his own company from roughly 1847 to 1857. It is marked on the barrel flats “BACON & CO. / NORWICH C – T / CAST STEEL" with “10" on the underside. The rounded all iron frame boot pistol has floral and scroll engraving extending onto the back strap. The antique iron frame pistol is in very good to fine condition ranging from plum-brown to grey with light freckling and spots of fine surface pitting on the metal surfaces. The hardwood grips are solid retaining trace amounts of the original varnish with light use marks. Mechanically the gun cocks and fires with a crisp trigger pull.
