Webley No. 5 New Army Express Revolver Published in Webley Revolvers
Description: Serial #1374, .455 5 1/2" ribbed, octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is a handsome revolver that has retained about 50% of the original bright blue, mostly on the barrel and cylinder, but there are traces remaining on the protected areas of the frame as well. The balance has either silvered, or turned to a smooth, mottled gray patina with some mild surface freckling here and there. The topstrap is marked: "COGSWELL & HARRISON" / 226 STRAND & 142 NEW BOND ST. LONDON", and the C&G Lion and "VENI VIDI VICI" riband trademark is present on the left side of the frame. The checkered walnut grips are in very good shape with only minor handling marks and small blemishes on either side. The action lock-up is good, and the mechanism is fully functional, however the ejector rod spring is a bit loose. This very revolver is pictured on page 93 of the "Webley Revolvers" book by Bruce & Reinhart (1988) and is listed as Fig. IV/78 (although the written caption lists it as Fig. IV/79). The revolver is pictured with a holster and lanyard in the book, but neither accompanied the gun at subsequent sale.
