1958 Factory Engraved Chrome Plated Beretta Model 418 Panther .25 ACP Pistol w/ Case, Manual, & Paperwork
** Scarce & Beautiful! **
Description: This is an absolutely stunning little factory engraved and chrome-plated .25 caliber Beretta Model 418 Panther, complete with an Italian-made lined case, owner's manual, and various related paperwork. First introduced in 1937, the Beretta 418 was an improved version of the Model 318 which was produced for only a couple of years prior. This blow-back operated semi-auto .25 ACP pistol features a 2.5" inch barrel, fixed sights, a loaded chamber indicator, a grip safety, a left side frame-mounted thumb safety that also functions as a slide hold-open, and a 8-round detachable magazine. The Beretta Model 418 proved to be an excellent little pocket pistol, both well-made and very reliable with ball ammunition. Beretta continued to maufacture the Model 418 Panther for 24 years until it was discontinued. During that 24 year production run Beretta offered several special finish options and engraving on a special order basis. This particular example is one such gun with factory chrome plating, a gold-finished trigger, and beautiful hand-cut engraving. The grips appear to be custom rather than factory and consist of checkered American Walnut. This little Panther has obviously lived a very easy life, most likely never carried or fired. The factory chrome plating is like-new and bright, rating 98 to 99%. The gold finish on the trigger is still in great shape too, rating 96%. The deductions from the gold finish come from just a tiny touch of plating loss/crazing, mainly on the face of the trigger. The hand engraving on this little pistol is very attractive and there is a lot of coverage. It is a floral/scroll motif and obviously was done by someone who was employed at Beretta as a master engraver. All the lines and cuts are clean and crisp in the engraving, and all of the factory stampings are also clean and visible. The bore in this Beretta is mirror-bright and perfect, and the rifling looks sharp and brand-new. The bolt face of the slide is perfect as well, free from any wear or visible primer pocket shadow. The polished feed ramp of the barrel is bright and clean, and there is no carbon or brass transfer anywhere on the gun indicating that it has been loaded or fired since leaving the Beretta factory. The custom checkered Walnut grips on this pistol are beautiful and clean, free from any cracks, chips, wear, soiling, or damage of any kind. Both grip panels are perfectly fit to the gun and tight to the frame with no wiggle. The action on this Beretta Panther is slick and smooth, and the slide to frame fitment is superb. All of the controls are in perfect working order, and we have no doubt that it would function just as reliably today as it did back in 1958. As mentioned before, this little .25 ACP Beretta comes with an Italian-made leather-covered and felt-lined case and a number of papers related to the gun (dealer list from 1961, etc.). The owner's manual has been trimmed-down at some point to fit in the case better but is still intact. If you have been looking for a showpiece-type pocket pistol to add to your collection here is your chance to get the best Beretta Panther we have had in decades. You just don't see these guns in this nice a condition, much less a scarce special-order factory engraved and chrome-plated example.
