S&W Model 1905 .38 M&P Fourth Change Revolver
Description:
Serial #353499, .38 Special, 4" barrel with an excellent, bright bore.
This is a handsome revolver that has matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, barrel, yoke, and extractor.
The metal retains 90-92% of the original blued finish with minor silvering at the muzzle, on projecting edges, and a moderate turn-ring on the cylinder with some further spots of gray between the flutes.
Some subtle forging marks are also present on the sideplate and rear of the frame where the blue has turned plum-brown along the edge lines.
The hammer and trigger have about 80-85% of their original color case-hardening remaining, while the balance has turned to pewter gray.
The grips are period mother-of-pearl, and are in fine condition with a few dark spots, and a single narrow sliver missing from the edge of the backstrap on the left panel.
The revolver is accompanied by a 2018 dated Smith & Wesson factory letter that lists a shipping date of September 20, 1920, to Bourne & Bond Co. of Louisville, KY.
This is a simply splendid example of a five screw S&W hand ejector, and would make a terrific addition to any collection.
