H. Messing & Son San Jose California Western Saddle circa 1880's Rare
Description: A fine, rare and well preserved Western Cowboy Saddle by Henry Messing & Son of San Jose California that was made in the 1880's. The working saddle is complete with all of its riggings including the fenders, skirts and stirrups. Maker marked on the seat and both fenders. Fully tooled in the California Poppy or Spanish Colonial style. The seat jockey, fenders and skirt are fully tooled with beautiful Poppy patterns as is most of the rigging straps. The horn leather is long gone but the original leather padding on the horn is still there with its original hand hammered copper rivets. The saddle still has its original tooled leather conchos and original rawhide ties. This rare saddle is complete with most of the sheepskin underneath and the saddle tree is solid. This saddle remains in its original condition and has never been re-worked.
